With over 25 Years recording Chicago Jazz greats & as a saxophone player on the Chicago jazz scene, JIM MASSOTH brings a unique perspective to both applications. He has recorded everything from solo piano to large ensembles, from commercial jingles to full production CD projects, always bringing his personal and expert understanding of each art form and to create a musical product with integrity as its calling card.In the mid 80’s ‘Soth’, as he is fondly referred to by his peers, established himself as a top flight and in demand reed man playing an amazing variety of engagements including shows, jazz gigs, concerts and casual engagements. It was then that he became interested in the art of recording, learning from such notable Recording Engineers as Bill Bradley of Universal Recording in Chicago. In 1998, Jim formed a partnership with veteran Recording Engineer Steve Yates. Jim’s stature and reputation as an artist combined with his burgeoning knowledge as a Recording Engineer soon helped to spread the word to the Chicago Jazz community of a different kind of recording experience. The studio soon became a destination point for many of the city’s top jazz and pop artists.Recording technology continues to change quite dramatically and Soth strives to stay on top of the latest innovations and trends. He has extensive knowledge of Pro Tools and computer recording, but he still adheres to the ‘old school’ approach that makes those vintage recordings sound so personal and real ! He remains passionate about both his art forms and relentlessly seeks new solutions to both familiar and new challenges.
